In brief: Emanuel departs from White House post

By on .

Zeke Emanuel, MD, PhD, has returned to his station directing the Bioethics Department at the National Institutes of Health.  Dr. Emanuel joined the White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB) as a special advisor on health policy to Peter Orzag, director of the OMB, in February 2009. According to reports from Kaiser Health News and Politico, the second year of health reform will be focusing on implementation rather than writing policy, the latter of which encompassed Dr. Emanuel’s advisory role.

Dr. Emanuel participated in many Science Speaks blog posts during his time at OMB, many of which fueled responses from various experts in the field of global health — TB and HIV in particular.

In multiple attempts to contact the OMB press office, no one responded with a comment on Dr. Emanuel’s departure, or who, if anyone, might be slated to take his place. Science Speaks will keep you posted on any new information we receive.
