LIVERPOOL, England – While much of the focus at this conference focuses on the pursuit of new knowledge, to better treat, diagnose and prevent tuberculosis, a group of experts from leading institutions worldwide have put together everything they currently know about the disease in 23 pages. Among the points, lead author Madhukar Pai said today, as Nature magazine released the Primer on tuberculosis online, is to ensure that health providers worldwide have access to knowledge they need to recognize and respond to the infection and disease, including in its drug-resistant forms, but it also works as a resource for advocates, policy makers and funders.

The first compilation of its kind, in both focus and scope, the Primer released today covers the history, epidemiology, and biology of tuberculosis as well as its detection, treatment and control. Released this morning it can be downloaded for free for the next month here.
