Antiviral Research has a supplement this month on recent trends in microbicide formulations.

A report from the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies out of the University of California looked at psychiatric risk factors for HIV disease progression. Researchers found that depression and substance use were tied to discontinuation of antiretroviral therapy, therefore hastening the progression of the disease.

A survey finds that HIV prevention programs often exclude men who have sex with men (MSM). The report – from the Global Forum on MSM & HIV – found that only 39 percent of respondents had easy access to free condoms and 57 percent found it to be either difficult or impossible to access HIV testing services. Three-quarters of respondents were from low- and middle-income countries.
