Barcelona, Spain — “TB kills more people every day than Ebola has killed to date,” UK Parliamentarian, Nick Herbert said in a plenary address at the Union Conference on Wednesday. “If this disease had re-emerged in the West, we would now have a vaccine and better drugs,” said the man who formed an all-party parliamentary group on TB in the British parliament and initiated an effort here to form such a group globally beginning with a pre-conference meeting of parliamentarians representing countries from five continents. The aim of this global group, he said, is “to push for a more effective global TB response to secure an end to the TB epidemic within a generation.” The full text of the Barcelona declaration can be found here.
