The World Health Organization and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria have teamed up with the Somali National Olympic Committee to launch a new anti-TB campaign in Mogadishu.
Here’s a link to a story on the effort by the African Press Agency, which says the campaign will consist of “a walk through the streets of Mogadishu, a concert by Somali musical Band Iftin and games of basketball, handball and volleyball to raise awareness of the killer disease.”
I am skeptical of the value of awareness. How much TB treatment is available in Somalia?
I don’t have a definitive answer to your very good question.
But if you go to the Stop TB Partnership’s website, at http://www.stoptb.org, and do a search for Somalia, you’ll get a decent (but somewhat dated) country profile that talks about DOTS implementation, etc. (I tried to cut and paste it but it was too much data.)
Thanks!
