Power Duo to Take on Global AIDS

By on .

So finally, we might hear something from Obama about HIV/AIDS. Michelle Obama, that is.

Apparently the First Lady has agreed to team up with her French counterpart, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, to work on HIV/AIDS issues, after the women met last week in Europe.

We already know the two political wives can create a stir with their fashion decisions; now we’ll see what they can do about disease.

Bruni-Sarkozy, a former model who lost her brother to AIDS, has already raised the profile of global AIDS issues with her trip earlier this year to Burkina Faso on behalf of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

It’s unclear what Michelle Obama will do, but apparently she and Bruni-Sarkozy plan to talk more about their joint efforts by phone soon. Here’s an AP story on the collaboration.
